Chapter 11 - The Ultimate Betrayal

Harper froze, the blood draining completely from her face as she stared at the glowing screen.
She quickly pulled away from Vincent's embrace, hiding her trembling hands behind her back.
Vincent looked down at her with a soft, questioning gaze, completely unaware of the deadly message on the desk.
He asked her if she was injured, his deep voice thick with genuine concern.
Harper forced a weak smile and shook her head, claiming the adrenaline was simply wearing off.
She subtly stepped in front of the mahogany desk, blocking his view of Don Marcano’s shattered phone.
Her mind raced in a frantic panic as she tried to process the impossible reality of that text message.
Her mother was supposed to be a frail, bedridden woman suffering from severe dementia.
Yet, the message proved her mother was not only lucid but actively orchestrating this entire mafia war.
Vincent gently placed a hand on her lower back and guided her out of the blood-soaked office.
He promised her that the nightmare was finally over and they could start a new life.
Harper nodded silently, feeling a sickening knot twist deep inside her stomach.
She realized with absolute terror that the nightmare had not ended at all.
It had simply evolved into something far more dangerous, and the true enemy was a ghost.
She knew she had to visit the nursing home immediately to uncover the terrifying truth.
She could not tell Vincent until she understood exactly who her mother truly was.
