Chapter 9 - The Siege

The doctor froze instantly, the deadly syringe hovering just inches above Declan’s intravenous line.
Sadie commanded the doctor to drop the lethal injection and treat the gunshot wound properly, or she would blow his brains out.
The terrified doctor dropped the syringe, his hands shaking as he desperately reached for surgical gauze to stop the bleeding.
Sadie kept the gun perfectly leveled at his head for two excruciating hours while he removed the bullet and sutured the wound.
Declan finally regained consciousness, his dark eyes locking onto Sadie with immense pride and gratitude.
But the doctor had subtly pressed a silent panic button hidden beneath the operating table.
The heavy steel doors of the clinic suddenly began to rattle under the force of a massive battering ram.
Marcus and his heavily armed mercenaries had surrounded the entire building.
Declan forced himself off the operating table, ignoring the agonizing pain in his freshly stitched side.
He grabbed a heavy shotgun from the clinic’s security locker and tossed a spare magazine to Sadie.
They flipped heavy metal medical cabinets on their sides to create a fortified barricade facing the main entrance.
The heavy steel doors finally gave way, crashing violently onto the linoleum floor.
Marcus’s men flooded into the hallway, firing a relentless barrage of bullets that shattered every piece of glass in the room.
Declan returned fire with devastating accuracy, dropping the first wave of attackers before they could even aim.
Sadie covered the flanking corridor, shooting any mercenary who tried to sneak around their makeshift barricade.
Marcus stepped over the bodies of his own men, holding an assault rifle and screaming for Declan’s blood.
He aimed his weapon directly at Sadie, determined to completely break Declan’s spirit before killing him.
Declan threw his body in front of Sadie just as Marcus pulled the heavy trigger.
A bullet grazed Declan’s shoulder, but he did not fall.
Declan fired his shotgun point-blank, sending Marcus crashing permanently to the cold floor.
