Chapter 5 - The Ambush at the Docks

Sadie slipped the silver pistol into the waistband of her jeans, carefully hiding it beneath her oversized cardigan.
She found a set of spare keys to a beat-up sedan parked at the back of the warehouse.
She drove through the pouring rain, following the GPS coordinates Marcus had foolishly spoken out loud on the video call.
When she arrived at the desolate shipyard, the massive steel cargo containers cast long, terrifying shadows in the moonlight.
She crept through the freezing mud, her broken arm throbbing with every single step she took.
She finally spotted Declan walking completely unarmed into the center of a large clearing illuminated by floodlights.
Marcus stood at the opposite end of the clearing, surrounded by heavily armed mercenaries holding assault rifles.
Leo was kneeling in the mud beside Marcus, a black cloth sack pulled tightly over his head.
Declan threw a thick leather briefcase filled with the signed territorial deeds directly into the mud at Marcus’s feet.
Marcus laughed loudly, picking up the briefcase and inspecting the legal documents with greedy eyes.
Declan calmly demanded that Marcus release Leo exactly as they had agreed upon.
Marcus shook his head, a wicked, soulless grin spreading across his scarred face.
He told Declan that he was keeping the territory, but he was leaving no loose ends alive tonight.
Marcus raised a suppressed pistol and aimed it directly at Declan’s chest.
Declan did not even flinch, accepting his fate with the stoic pride of a true king.
Sadie knew Declan’s elite guards were too far away to intervene in time.
She stepped out from behind a rusty shipping container and pulled the silver pistol from her waistband.
She aimed the weapon with her left hand, completely ignoring the violent shaking of her terrified body.

Sadie squeezed the trigger, the loud gunshot echoing like a cannon blast through the empty shipyard.
The bullet struck Marcus directly in the shoulder, spinning him violently backward into the freezing mud.
