Chapter 3 - The Safehouse Revelation

The deafening roar of automatic weapons echoed through the ruined kitchen for a solid minute.
Declan pulled Sadie to her feet, dragging her through the choking dust toward the hidden servant’s staircase.
They sprinted down into the underground garage, where a sleek, heavily armored black SUV was already idling.
Declan shoved her into the passenger seat and jumped behind the wheel, slamming his foot onto the gas pedal.
The SUV smashed completely through the reinforced garage doors, tearing out into the chaotic morning streets.
They drove in terrifying silence for an hour, weaving through back alleys to lose any potential pursuers.
Declan finally parked the battered vehicle inside an abandoned, rusted warehouse on the edge of the industrial district.
He led Sadie up a flight of metal stairs into a pristine, fully stocked safehouse hidden above the rotting factory floor.
Sadie collapsed onto a leather sofa, clutching her broken arm as the adrenaline slowly drained from her system.
Declan tossed a heavy medical kit onto the table and began checking his own body for gunshot wounds.
He was bleeding from a deep graze on his shoulder, but he completely ignored the pain.
Sadie watched him wrap a tight bandage around his arm, her mind spinning with a thousand unanswered questions.
She finally asked him why the most powerful boss in the city was risking his entire life for a simple maid.
Declan stopped what he was doing and looked at her with a profound, heavy sadness.
He walked over to a steel filing cabinet in the corner of the room and unlocked it with a fingerprint scanner.
He pulled out a thick manila folder and dropped it onto the glass coffee table right in front of her.
Sadie cautiously opened the folder, her breath catching as she stared at the contents.
Inside were dozens of photographs of her father, a man she believed had died in a simple car accident ten years ago.
The photographs showed her father standing shoulder-to-shoulder with a much younger Declan Watcher, both holding assault rifles.
Declan confessed that her father was his greatest mentor, the man who had taught him how to survive in the syndicate.
Marcus had murdered her father to seize power, and Declan had secretly hired Sadie to keep her completely safe from the fallout.
Sadie felt her entire reality completely shatter into a million unrecognizable pieces.

Suddenly, Declan’s encrypted cell phone vibrated loudly against the glass table.
The caller ID displayed Marcus’s name, and a live video feed automatically opened on the screen.
