Chapter 7 - The Final Betrayal

Sadie stared at the dark barrel of her own brother’s gun in absolute, paralyzing disbelief.

The thick smoke finally cleared, revealing Marcus clutching his bleeding shoulder and smiling wickedly.

Marcus ordered Leo to pull the trigger and prove his ultimate loyalty to the new syndicate.

Leo’s hand trembled slightly, but his greed was clearly stronger than his love for his sister.

Declan did not show a single ounce of fear as he looked down the barrel of the weapon.

He slowly raised his hands in surrender, subtly shifting his body to completely shield Sadie from the line of fire.

Declan asked Leo if a few million dollars was really worth carrying the guilt of murdering his own family.

Leo angrily screamed that he was tired of being a broke loser while Declan lived like a king in a mansion.

Leo cocked the heavy hammer of the gun, his finger tightening dangerously on the trigger.

Sadie screamed her brother’s name, begging him to remember the father who had loved them both so much.

Marcus lost his patience and yelled at Leo to stop hesitating and take the fatal shot immediately.

Declan knew Leo was not a hardened killer, and he used that vital hesitation to his advantage.

Declan pressed a hidden button on the side of his expensive titanium wristwatch.

A massive, blinding flashbang grenade secretly planted in the leather briefcase detonated with terrifying force.

The intense burst of white light completely blinded everyone in the clearing.

Declan grabbed Sadie by the waist and tackled her off the edge of the concrete pier into the freezing, dark waters of the bay.

They hit the water hard, the icy shock stealing the oxygen completely from Sadie’s lungs.

She struggled to swim with her heavy cast dragging her downward into the dark abyss.

Declan wrapped his strong arm around her and kicked powerfully toward the rotting wooden pilings beneath the pier.

They surfaced silently in the pitch-black shadows, gasping quietly for precious air.

Above them, they could hear Marcus ordering his men to shoot anything that moved in the water.
