Chapter 6 - The Scorned Lover

Jacqueline stepped into the dim light of the warehouse, her eyes blazing with a dangerous mix of fury and heartbreak.
"You sent me a watch and a typed note, Gunther?" she sneered, the sniper rifle remaining steady on Kayla. "After everything I did for you?"
Gunther didn't lower his weapon. "Jacqueline, put the gun down. This isn't about you."
"It's always about you, Gunther," she countered, her voice trembling slightly. "Victor came to me. He said you were losing your edge, that you were distracted by some little maid. I didn't believe him until I tracked you here."
She glared at Kayla, who was frozen in terror. "Is this what replaced me? A girl who scrubs floors?"
"She's collateral," Gunther lied smoothly, trying to de-escalate the situation. "She saw too much. I'm using her as leverage."
Jacqueline laughed, a harsh, brittle sound. "You're a terrible liar when you're desperate, Gunther."
She adjusted her grip on the rifle. "Victor promised me a place in the new organization if I brought him your head. But I think I'd rather just break your heart."

She shifted her aim from Kayla to Gunther. Before she could pull the trigger, the rusted side door of the warehouse was kicked open violently.
A squad of heavily armed men poured into the room, wearing tactical gear devoid of any insignia. They weren't Victor's men. They were a third, unknown faction, and they were pointing their weapons at everyone.
