Chapter 3 - The Unlikely Escape

Gunther didn't hesitate. He grabbed Kayla's arm and dragged her toward the heavy, floor-to-ceiling windows.
"We're going out," he commanded, smashing the reinforced glass with the heavy base of a table lamp.
The cold night air rushed into the room. He pushed Kayla out onto the stone balcony and followed closely behind. Below them, the estate grounds were shrouded in darkness, the security patrols suspiciously absent.
He grabbed a heavy rope from the balcony storage chest and secured it to the stone railing. "Climb down," he ordered, pressing his SIG Sauer into her hand. "If anyone stops you, shoot them."
Kayla stared at the weapon in horror, but the look in Gunther's eyes told her she had no choice. She scrambled over the railing, her hands burning as she slid down the rope to the ground. Gunther followed, landing silently beside her.
They moved quickly through the manicured gardens, heading for the hidden garage where Gunther kept a secure, untraceable vehicle.
As they reached the heavy steel doors of the garage, a blinding spotlight snapped on, pinning them like insects on a display board.

A voice echoed from the darkness. "You're getting slow in your old age, Gunther."
It was Victor, Gunther’s trusted underboss, holding a high-powered rifle and flanked by half a dozen heavily armed men.
