Chapter 8 - The Steel Mill

Three black armored tactical vans tore through the industrial district of Chicago.
Dominic and Hannah sat in the lead vehicle entirely surrounded by heavily armed professional soldiers.
The mercenary commander sat across from them and reviewed the satellite blueprints of the steel mill.
He warned Dominic that the Whitmore forces were heavily entrenched inside the main foundry.
Dominic coldly replied that he did not care how many men died to breach the doors.
He just wanted his mother out of the building alive.
The vans came to a violent halt exactly one block away from the rusted compound.
The mercenaries silently deployed into the shadows with flawless tactical precision.
Dominic handed Hannah a tactical vest and a customized assault rifle.
He told her to stay closely behind him and only shoot if she had absolutely no other choice.
Hannah smiled faintly and chambered a round with terrifying speed.
A massive explosion suddenly rocked the front gates of the steel mill.
The mercenary team launched a brutal, overwhelming frontal assault on the Whitmore guards.
Dominic and Hannah used the chaotic distraction to slip through a side entrance near the river.
They moved quietly through the dark, echoing corridors of the abandoned factory.
The sound of intense automatic gunfire echoed loudly from the main foundry floor.
They found a rusted metal staircase leading up to the suspended supervisor's office.
Dominic slowly peered through the dirty glass window of the elevated room.
His mother was sitting calmly in a wooden chair with her hands tied behind her back.
A tall Whitmore lieutenant was pacing nervously back and forth while talking on a radio.
Dominic kicked the heavy wooden door completely off its rusted hinges.
He shot the lieutenant in the chest before the man could even drop his radio.
Hannah quickly rushed forward and used her combat knife to cut the thick ropes.
Eleanor stood up gracefully and smoothed the wrinkles from her expensive evening gown.
She looked at the dead man on the floor and complained that he had been terribly boring company.
Dominic hugged his mother tightly and let out a massive sigh of profound relief.
He told her they had completely secured the perimeter and won the entire war.
The mercenary commander walked into the office and confirmed the Whitmore forces were totally eliminated.
Hannah lowered her weapon and allowed herself to finally feel genuinely safe.
Dominic took her hand and promised that nobody would ever hunt her again.
They escorted Eleanor out of the factory and drove directly to a highly secure safehouse.

They had successfully defeated the greatest threat to both of their families in a single night.
The nightmare was officially over.
