Chapter 6 - The Shadow Bank

Dominic steered the black speedboat toward a deserted industrial pier on the south side.

He tied the heavy ropes to a rusted cleat and helped Hannah climb onto the wooden dock.

They left Walter hidden safely under a heavy tarp in the back of the boat.

The city streets were completely empty and illuminated only by flickering orange streetlights.

Hannah led Dominic toward a massive, crumbling warehouse that looked entirely abandoned.

She punched a complex sixteen-digit code into a hidden keypad on the brick wall.

A heavy steel door hissed open and revealed a brightly lit, pristine elevator.

They stepped inside and the carriage instantly plummeted deep underground.

Dominic checked his weapon and asked how she knew the bank was still operational.

Hannah said the criminal underworld always kept the money flowing regardless of who died.

The elevator doors opened into a massive, luxurious lobby made of polished black marble.

Armed guards in tailored suits immediately aimed submachine guns at their chests.

A tall, elegant banker with silver hair walked slowly out from behind a bulletproof glass counter.

He recognized Dominic instantly and told him he was currently bankrupt.

The banker ordered the heavily armed guards to escort them off the premises.

Hannah stepped out from behind Dominic and looked directly at the silver-haired man.

She told him she was here to claim the Rossi cartel inheritance.

The banker completely froze and stared at her face in absolute shock.

He quickly waved his hand to make the confused guards lower their weapons.

He bowed slightly and led them toward a massive, circular steel vault door.

The banker explained that the account required a genetic verification to unlock.

He pointed to a high-tech retinal scanner mounted on the thick concrete wall.

Hannah stepped forward and pressed her right eye against the glowing blue lens.

The machine hummed quietly for three agonizing seconds as it scanned her biometric data.

The light suddenly flashed a bright, piercing red color.

A loud mechanical clanking echoed through the room as heavy locks engaged everywhere.

The massive vault door did not open.

Instead, thick steel plates slammed down over the elevator doors and trapped them inside.

The elegant banker smiled apologetically from behind the safety of his bulletproof glass.

He told them the Whitmore family had placed a massive bounty on her head two hours ago.

He explained that delivering the Rossi heir was worth far more than her father's old money.

A hissing sound suddenly filled the room as lethal halon gas began pouring from the ceiling vents.

Dominic realized the banker was going to suffocate them to claim the massive reward.
