Chapter 10 - The False Victory

Dominic stared at the television screen in absolute, paralyzing confusion.
He had personally seen Silas shoot Vanessa with a heavy shotgun at point-blank range.
Vanessa smiled directly into the camera and casually adjusted her diamond necklace.
She told Dominic that he was incredibly predictable for a supposed criminal mastermind.
She explained that she had worn a customized ballistic vest under her champagne silk dress all evening.
She said the entire siege at the estate had merely been a calculated distraction.
Vanessa admitted she never actually cared about the Rossi fortune or the shipping debts at all.
She needed Dominic out of his heavily fortified estate so her real partner could quietly take over his territory.
Dominic stood up slowly from the sofa and felt a terrifying coldness wash over him.
He demanded to know exactly who was running the Whitmore syndicate if her father was not.
Vanessa laughed beautifully and stepped aside to reveal the true leader of the hostile takeover.
A tall, broad-shouldered man with graying hair walked slowly into the frame.
He was wearing a perfectly tailored charcoal suit that looked exactly like Dominic's favorite cut.
Hannah dropped her glass of bourbon and it shattered violently on the hardwood floor.
Dominic completely stopped breathing as he stared into the dark eyes of the man on the screen.
It was a face he had buried in an expensive mahogany casket over twenty years ago.
His supposedly dead father smiled coldly at the hidden camera and straightened his silk tie.

The older man told Dominic that he had done an adequate job babysitting the city in his absence.
He ordered Dominic to bring the Rossi girl to him immediately or he would personally finish what he started with Eleanor.
