Chapter 9 - The Bargain

Silas clapped his hands slowly, heavily mocking his former boss for crawling out of a sewer like a rat.

He demanded that Dorian hand over the digital microchip containing the stolen financial ledgers immediately.

Dorian stood perfectly still in the freezing mud, his body acting as a massive shield blocking the tunnel exit.

He kept Marin completely hidden in the darkness behind his legs, refusing to let Silas see her.

"Let the woman go, Silas," Dorian commanded, his voice completely devoid of fear.

He offered to willingly surrender the microchip and his own life in exchange for Marin's absolute safety.

Silas threw his head back and laughed, a hollow, echoing sound over the crashing waves of the lake.

He coldly stated that he was going to kill them both, burn the microchip, and blame the entire massacre on a rival family.

Dorian's hand slowly moved toward the pistol hidden at the small of his back.

He knew he could not possibly shoot a dozen heavily armed men before they tore him to pieces.

Suddenly, a massive black blur launched itself from the absolute darkness of the tunnel with terrifying speed.

Titan leaped directly at Silas, completely ignoring the wall of automatic weapons pointed at the exit.

The giant dog clamped his jaws viciously around the traitor's throat, dragging Silas violently into the freezing mud.

Absolute chaos erupted on the riverbank as the mercenaries panicked and wildly opened fire.

Dorian aggressively drew his weapon and accurately shot the massive floodlight, plunging the area back into darkness.

He fired rapidly into the confused crowd of mercenaries, dropping three men in the span of two seconds.

Marin crawled out of the tunnel and used her revolver to blindly fire toward the muzzle flashes in the dark.

The deafening roar of gunfire and the terrified screams of dying men echoed endlessly into the night.

When the heavy smoke finally cleared, the riverbank fell completely and terrifyingly silent.

Silas was bleeding profusely in the mud, desperately clutching his torn throat as his life slipped away.

But Dorian was lying motionless on his back in the wet grass.

A dark, spreading stain of crimson blood covered the center of his chest.
