Chapter 10 - The Dead Man

Marin scrambled desperately through the freezing mud and pressed her hands aggressively against Dorian's bleeding chest.
He coughed heavily but managed to give her a weak, arrogant smile to prove he was still alive.
Marin quickly grabbed the dead traitor's satellite phone and handed the microchip to the wounded mafia boss.
Dorian used his final ounce of strength to transfer the stolen millions directly back to the syndicate council, utterly destroying Silas's coup.
Silas watched the digital transfer complete on the phone screen and died knowing he had lost absolutely everything.
Weeks later, the violent power struggle in Chicago had completely ended, and Dorian had fully recovered from his gunshot wound.
He had personally relocated Marin to a beautiful, heavily guarded safe house in the quiet suburbs, paying off all her massive debts.
Titan was currently sleeping peacefully on the expensive rug at her feet, finally allowed to rest after years of war.
Dorian visited her that evening, pouring them both a glass of expensive wine to celebrate their hard-won victory.
He looked into her eyes and promised that his empire was completely secure and no one would ever threaten her again.
It truly felt like a perfect, beautiful victory and the peaceful beginning of an entirely new life.
Then, the heavy oak front door of the safe house slowly and silently creaked open.
A tall man wearing a dark trench coat walked casually into the brightly lit living room.
Marin gasped in absolute horror and dropped her wine glass, watching it shatter into a hundred pieces on the hardwood floor.

Her dead husband, Daniel Caldwell, stood perfectly healthy in the doorway with a completely cold, psychopathic smile.
He slowly raised a suppressed pistol and aimed it directly at the back of Dorian's unsuspecting head.
