Chapter 4 - The Poisoned Pawn

The showroom erupted into pure chaos as the manager convulsed violently on the shattered crystal.
The police officers frantically called for an ambulance over their radios.
Arthur shielded the boy's eyes from the horrifying scene unfolding on the floor.
"She took a cyanide capsule," one of the older officers shouted as he tried to clear her airway.
Arthur realized with absolute dread that the people who took Anna were playing a much bigger game.
The manager was merely a pawn who had been silenced before she could reveal the mastermind.
"We have no leads left," Arthur muttered to himself in despair.
The wealthy woman from earlier named Victoria suddenly approached them holding a designer tablet.
"That might not be entirely true," Victoria said with a surprisingly serious tone.
She handed her expensive tablet directly to Arthur.
"I run the security software for this entire commercial district," Victoria explained calmly.
Arthur looked at the screen and saw live satellite tracking of the black van that had nearly run them over.
"You tracked them?" Arthur asked in sheer disbelief.
"My cameras caught their license plate and cross-referenced it with city toll booths," she replied.
Victoria tapped the screen and a red dot appeared near the old industrial harbor.
"I may be a snob but I do not tolerate people harming children in my city," Victoria stated firmly.
Arthur felt a sudden surge of hope and immediately called his loyal head of security.
"Marcus, bring the armored SUV to the front entrance right now," Arthur commanded into his phone.
Marcus arrived three minutes later driving a massive bulletproof vehicle.
Arthur placed the boy safely in the back seat and Victoria surprisingly climbed in beside him.
"I am coming with you because you need my tracking software to find them," Victoria insisted.
Marcus stepped out of the driver's seat and opened the door for Arthur.
"Are you sure this is a good idea, sir?" Marcus asked with deep concern.
Arthur looked his most trusted friend and loyal lawyer directly in the eyes.
"We are getting my daughter back tonight no matter the cost," Arthur declared.
They sped through the city streets and followed the red dot on Victoria's tablet toward the abandoned docks.
The rain started pouring down heavily and made the dark roads extremely treacherous.
They finally arrived at a massive rusted warehouse that looked completely deserted.
"The van is parked inside that building," Victoria whispered while pointing at the screen.
Arthur reached into the glove compartment and pulled out a heavy silver revolver.
"Stay in the car with the boy," Arthur ordered Marcus.
Marcus suddenly locked all the doors of the vehicle from his control panel.
Arthur tried to open his door but the handle would not budge at all.
May you like
Marcus slowly turned around in the driver's seat and pulled a suppressed pistol from his jacket.
"I am afraid I cannot let you go inside, Arthur," Marcus smiled coldly.
