Greg fell backward onto the dirty floor, completely dead before he even stopped moving.
Emma sprinted across the warehouse and snatched Lily into her desperate, trembling arms.

Emma dropped to her knees beside Alexander, pressing her hands fiercely against his bleeding chest.
"Stay with me, Alexander, please do not close your eyes!" she begged, tears pouring down her face.
His breathing was incredibly shallow, and his dark eyes were beginning to lose their sharp focus.
"You are safe now," he whispered weakly, reaching up to touch her tear-stained cheek.
In that terrifying moment, Emma realized she had completely fallen in love with the ruthless mafia boss.
His elite medical team stormed the warehouse seconds later, loading him swiftly onto a portable stretcher.
They rushed him to a highly secure underground hospital hidden deep within the city limits.
Emma sat in the sterile waiting room for six agonizing hours, rocking a sleeping Lily in her arms.
Melanie had escaped during the chaos, vanishing completely into the criminal underworld.
Finally, the lead surgeon walked through the swinging doors with a grim, exhausted expression.
"The bullet missed his heart by a millimeter, but he has lost a catastrophic amount of blood," the doctor explained.
Suddenly, the hospital's emergency backup generators kicked on violently, plunging the halls into red emergency lighting.
The entire city's power grid had just been intentionally shut down by an outside force.
