Chapter 2 - The Choice

Emma stared down at the heavy weapon resting in her shaking palm.

Greg sobbed pathetically in the trunk, begging her to spare his miserable life.

"Please, Emma, they made me do it!" he cried through his bloody lips.

She looked at the man who was supposed to be her husband just an hour ago.

He was nothing but a weak, selfish coward who had gambled away her future.

But as she raised the gun, she thought about her young daughter sitting in the church.

"I am not a murderer," she whispered, violently shoving the gun back into Alexander's chest.

Alexander caught the weapon effortlessly, a strange look of genuine respect flashing across his handsome face.

"A wise choice, but it means you officially belong to me now," he stated smoothly.

He slammed the trunk shut, trapping Greg in the dark once again.

Alexander gently placed his large hand on the small of her back and guided her into the luxurious backseat.

His men quickly retrieved Lily and Melanie from the church, placing them safely in the second SUV.

The armored convoy sped away from the cathedral, leaving Emma's old, ordinary life completely behind.

They drove in tense silence until they reached a massive, heavily fortified estate on the edge of the city.

High stone walls and armed guards completely surrounded the beautiful, sprawling mansion.

"You will live here, and your daughter will have the best private tutors in the country," Alexander announced.

Emma stepped out of the car, feeling like a tiny bird entering a beautiful, gilded cage.

Melanie ran over to her, hugging her tightly while Lily looked around the massive courtyard in awe.

"Mommy, is this a castle?" the five-year-old asked innocently.

Before Emma could answer, Alexander's towering right-hand man walked down the front steps to greet them.

Lily suddenly gasped and pointed her small finger directly at the scary, scarred enforcer.

"Mommy, that is the nice man who always watches me play at the park every Tuesday," the little girl announced loudly.
