Chapter 6 - The Bleeding King

Clara screamed Rico's name as he fell onto the cold concrete floor of the warehouse.
Dante grabbed his dropped pistol and aimed it directly at his wounded, struggling boss.
Clara did not hesitate for a single fraction of a second.
She threw herself completely over the front seat and tackled Dante violently against the steering wheel.
The gun fired wildly, shattering the windshield into a million glittering pieces.
Rico forced himself up from the ground, raised his shotgun, and fired a single, deafening blast.
Dante slumped forward against the dashboard, entirely motionless.
Clara kicked the door open and rushed frantically to Rico's side with Leo in her arms.
Rico was bleeding profusely from a severe, jagged gunshot wound in his lower abdomen.
Clara ripped the clean linen apron from her waist and applied intense, desperate pressure to the wound.
Rico looked up at her, his icy eyes softening with an incredibly rare, vulnerable gratitude.
He whispered that she was the bravest woman he had ever met in his entire violent life.
Clara cried softly, begging him to stay awake and keep his eyes open.
They heard the loud, unmistakable wail of police sirens rapidly approaching the abandoned warehouse.
Rico forced himself to his feet, leaning heavily against Clara's shoulder for vital support.
They stumbled out the back loading dock, disappearing entirely into the dark, rainy alleyway.
Dozens of squad cars swarmed the front of the building, bathing the area in bright, flashing blue lights.
A tall police captain stepped out of his cruiser and examined the bloody scene inside the warehouse.

He pulled a police radio to his mouth and ordered his officers to find Rico Moretti immediately.
He chillingly added that the mafia boss was highly dangerous and should be shot on sight without any warning.
