Chapter 3 - The Unlikely Ally

Elena backed away slowly until her spine hit the cold glass of the office window.

She stared down the dark barrel of the gun, knowing her life was about to end in this silent room.

Marcus walked closer, his tall frame completely blocking her only path to the locked door.

"Sylvia paid me a fortune to ensure this footage completely disappeared tonight," Marcus stated in a low, gravelly voice.

Elena closed her eyes tightly, waiting for the inevitable crack of the gunshot.

"But I draw the line at murdering an innocent woman who just saved a baby's life," he whispered unexpectedly.

Elena opened her eyes in pure shock as Marcus slowly lowered his heavy weapon.

He tossed the silver hard drive across the room, and she clumsily caught it against her chest.

"You need to run right now, because Sylvia has already called in outside mercenaries to finish the job," Marcus warned.

He explained that Sylvia wanted total control of the family fortune, which meant eliminating Victor's only heir.

Marcus violently kicked the locked office door to make it look like a struggle had occurred.

"Take the service stairs down to the garage and use my black motorcycle to escape," he instructed quickly.

Elena thanked him profusely and slipped out through the hidden panel connecting to the servant quarters.

She silently navigated the narrow, dark corridors while heavily armed men searched the main hallways above her.

She finally reached the underground garage and spotted the sleek black motorcycle waiting in the corner.

Elena quickly put on the spare helmet and revved the powerful engine to life.

She sped out of the driveway just as two black tactical vans screeched to a halt at the front gates.

She drove recklessly into the dark city streets, desperately seeking a safe place to view the footage.

Elena eventually found a twenty-four-hour internet cafe located in a sketchy, deserted neighborhood.

She plugged the silver drive into the computer terminal and waited for the files to load.

A bright red warning screen suddenly popped up on the monitor, requesting a biometric thumbprint scan to access the decrypted video.
