Chapter 2 - The Erased Truth

Victor ordered his private security guards to lock Elena in the basement until the police arrived.

Sylvia stood behind him, offering Elena a wicked, triumphant smile that chilled her to the bone.

Elena knew that if the police arrested her now, Sylvia would easily manipulate the narrative and ruin her life forever.

She had to find the physical backup drive that was hidden inside Victor's private office safe.

As the two massive security guards reached out to grab her arms, Elena made a desperate decision.

She violently kicked a heavy patio chair directly into the guards' legs, sending them crashing to the wet concrete.

Elena did not look back as she sprinted fiercely through the open glass doors and into the massive mansion.

Alarms immediately began to blare throughout the estate, flashing bright red lights across the marble hallways.

She could hear Victor screaming for the guards to capture her at any cost.

Elena pushed her burning legs to move faster, sliding across the polished floors toward the grand staircase.

She reached Victor's dark office on the second floor and slammed the heavy oak door shut behind her.

She quickly locked the deadbolt and rushed toward the large oil painting hanging behind the mahogany desk.

Her hands shook violently as she swung the painting aside to reveal the hidden wall safe.

Elena knew the combination because she had accidentally seen Victor open it a month prior.

She hastily punched in the six-digit code, praying that the digital lock had not been recently changed.

The heavy steel door clicked open with a quiet beep.

Elena reached her hand inside the dark cavity to grab the physical hard drive that contained the real footage.

Her fingers felt absolutely nothing but cold, empty steel.

The backup drive was already completely gone.

"Looking for this?" a deep, menacing voice asked from the dark corner of the room.

Elena slowly turned around and saw Marcus, the head of security, stepping out of the shadows.

He was holding the silver hard drive in one hand and aiming a suppressed pistol directly at her chest with the other.
