Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

The roar of heavily modified motorcycle engines shattered the quiet night. Bear and the Iron Hounds tore down the abandoned highway, pushing their bikes to the absolute limit. FBI choppers tracked Miller’s stolen cruiser from above, relaying his position. Miller was heading for the state line, desperately trying to escape the dragnet. Bear pushed his throttle wide open, his massive bike eating up the asphalt. Within minutes, they spotted the taillights of the speeding police cruiser. Skull pulled up alongside the car, leveling a heavy shotgun at the tires. With two thunderous blasts, the cruiser's rear tires shredded into smoking black ribbons. The car fishtailed violently, spinning out of control before crashing into a deep muddy ditch. Bear skidded his bike to a halt, drawing his weapon as he approached the smoking wreckage. Miller kicked his jammed door open, stumbling out into the mud with his hands raised. "Don't shoot!" Miller cried, tossing the silver flash drive onto the wet grass. Bear picked up the drive, securing it safely inside his leather vest. "You almost had it all, Miller," Bear said, cuffing the traitorous cop. Three months later, the sun shone brightly on a newly rebuilt diner. The grand opening sign fluttered in the gentle breeze, welcoming the town back. Inside, the place was packed with smiling faces, eating eggs and pouring hot coffee. Bear sat at his usual corner booth, dressed in civilian clothes, watching his mother work. Martha looked ten years younger, happily chatting with the teenager who was now her manager. Sterling and his entire corrupt network had been indicted and sentenced to federal prison. The town was finally clean, and Bear’s mission was officially complete. He took a sip of his black coffee, smiling warmly as Martha walked over and kissed his cheek. It was a perfect, peaceful ending to a nightmare they had endured for years. Later that evening, after closing, Martha locked the front doors and turned off the neon sign. She walked back to her private office, closing the blinds tightly. Kneeling on the floor, she pried up a loose wooden board to reveal a hidden metal safe. She spun the dial, opening the heavy door, but she didn't put money inside. Instead, she pulled out a burner phone and a thick, highly classified FBI file on her own son. Martha dialed a secure number, waiting calmly in the dark. "Sterling is gone, and Jax suspects nothing," she whispered into the receiver. "The syndicate is finally ours to control."
