Chapter 7 - The Halon Gas

The horrific truth about Rebecca Ward hung in the freezing air of the server room.
Julian raised his pistol, preparing to pull the trigger and end Elias's life.
Emma did not hesitate for a single second.
She reached out and smashed the glass casing of the emergency fire suppression panel on the wall.
She slammed her fist down hard on the manual override button for the halon gas system.
Deafening alarms began to shriek as thick, white gas violently flooded the enclosed room.
The gas instantly sucked the oxygen out of the air, perfectly designed to suffocate electrical fires.
Julian choked violently and fired blindly into the white cloud, missing them by inches.
Emma grabbed the finished flash drive and dragged Elias out through the emergency maintenance hatch.
They sealed the heavy steel door behind them, leaving Julian suffocating alone in the server room.
They escaped down the fire stairs, emerging into the freezing Chicago morning completely exhausted.
They now possessed the digital keys to destroy Maddox's empire and halt the merger entirely.
Emma's cell phone suddenly vibrated in her pocket with an unknown caller ID.
She answered it, expecting to hear a police dispatcher or another cartel assassin.
Instead, Grant Maddox's deep, arrogant voice echoed through the tiny speaker.

"Hello, Emma," the billionaire chuckled darkly.
"I have your father sitting right here with me at the hospital, and he would really hate to miss his heart medication today."
