Chapter 6 - The Corporate Heist
Elias stared at the burner phone in absolute, heartbreaking disbelief.
His trusted business partner and oldest friend was the one trying to have him assassinated.
"Julian is trying to force the merger through so he can take full control of Ward Meridian," Elias realized out loud.
"He needs you dead so he can sign the contracts with Maddox tomorrow morning," Emma added grimly.
They abandoned the stolen delivery van and made their way to the towering Ward Meridian corporate skyscraper.
Emma knew they needed to steal the master cryptographic key to freeze the company's assets and stop the merger.
They bypassed the lobby security using Elias's biometric executive access codes.
They reached the sixty-fifth floor, stepping quietly into the dark, humming corporate server room.
Emma connected her laptop to the massive mainframe and began downloading the encryption keys.
The download progress bar hit ninety percent when the server room lights suddenly snapped on.
Julian Mercer stood in the doorway, holding a suppressed pistol aimed directly at Elias's heart.
"You always were too smart for your own good, Elias," Julian sneered cruelly.
"Why are you doing this to us, Julian?" Elias asked, his voice breaking with deep betrayal.

"Because Maddox paid me twenty million dollars to sell your sister to his international buyers."
