Chapter 1 - The Arabic Translation

Emma balanced the heavy silver tray on her left palm as she approached the secluded west alcove of the restaurant.
Grant Maddox sat at the head of the table, looking incredibly pleased with himself.
Elias Ward and Julian Mercer sat opposite him, reviewing a thick stack of financial documents.
"This deal will make Ward Meridian the undisputed king of Midwest logistics," Maddox boasted loudly.
Emma silently set the first plate of seared Wagyu beef in front of Elias, keeping her eyes respectfully lowered.
Maddox glanced at her and sneered, leaning closer to his two potential business partners.
He switched his language to Arabic, assuming a random waitstaff employee would never comprehend a single word.
"Look at this miserable girl," Maddox chuckled in fluent Arabic.
"She will spend her entire life carrying plates for men like us, completely oblivious to how the real world operates."
Elias frowned slightly, clearly uncomfortable with the unnecessary cruelty, but he remained silent.
Emma finished setting the plates down and smoothly poured a vintage Bordeaux into Maddox's glass.
She looked directly into the billionaire's eyes and offered him a polite, perfectly practiced smile.
"Actually, sir, the real world operates on supply chain efficiency and risk mitigation," Emma replied in absolutely flawless, unaccented Arabic.
"And based on your proposed routing schedules in that portfolio, your profit margins will collapse before the next fiscal quarter."
The entire table went completely dead silent.
Julian dropped his heavy silver fork, staring at the waitress in absolute shock.
Grant Maddox turned chalk white, his jaw hanging open as if he had just seen a ghost.
Emma offered a crisp nod and turned away, walking calmly back toward the bustling kitchen.
When she checked her apron pocket ten minutes later, she found a heavy black business card tucked inside.
It belonged to Elias Ward, and he had scribbled a private phone number on the back.
Before she could process the implication, a massive hand grabbed her shoulder and shoved her into the dark service hallway.

Maddox's personal bodyguard pinned her aggressively against the brick wall.
"You just made a very expensive mistake, little girl," the massive man hissed, pulling a combat knife from his jacket.
