Chapter 8 - The Double Cross

Rachel stared at Grant in absolute horror as armed guards suddenly poured out of the service doors.
"You completely sold us out to save your own pathetic life," Rachel screamed in total betrayal.
The heavily armed guards quickly surrounded them, aiming laser-sighted rifles at their chests.
Julian raised his hands slowly in surrender, cursing violently under his breath.
Grant casually holstered his weapon and walked confidently toward the tall, elegant older man standing in the doorway.
Dr. Adrian Vale looked remarkably healthy for a man in his late seventies, smiling coldly at his estranged son.
"You finally decided to embrace your true legacy, Grant," Dr. Vale said, placing a proud hand on Grant's shoulder.
"I just want my money and my reputation fully restored, and you can keep the girl," Grant bargained smoothly.
Rachel fought aggressively against the heavy hands of the guards restraining her arms.
"She is an innocent child, you absolute monster," Rachel sobbed desperately.
Dr. Vale completely ignored her, gesturing for his security team to bring them all inside the mansion.
They were marched aggressively down several flights of stairs into the pristine underground medical wing.
Rachel saw Maddie locked safely inside a glass observation room, playing quietly with a nurse.
"Take Julian to the interrogation room, and prep the girl for the surgical extraction," Dr. Vale ordered coldly.
Grant stood perfectly still, watching the guards securely handcuff Julian to a heavy steel table.
Dr. Vale turned his back to inspect a tray of surgical instruments resting on a silver counter.
"You really did well today, my son," Dr. Vale praised him without looking back.
Grant quietly pulled the loaded handgun back out of his hidden jacket pocket.
He did not aim the weapon at Julian, and he did not aim it at Rachel.

"I am absolutely not your son," Grant whispered fiercely.
He raised the heavy gun and pressed the cold steel barrel directly against the back of Dr. Vale's head.
