Chapter 4 - The Twisted Roots

Rachel stared at Grant in complete and utter disbelief.

"Your father was Richard Carter, I have literally seen his gravestone," Rachel argued frantically.

Grant shook his head, his eyes glued to the photograph of Dr. Vale on her phone.

"My mother confessed to me years ago that she had a brief affair with her private physician," Grant explained numbly.

He collapsed heavily onto the expensive leather sofa, burying his face in his hands.

Rachel's mind raced as she tried to connect the terrifying dots.

If Grant was Dr. Vale's biological son, and Dr. Vale was Maddie's biological father, the math was horrifying.

"The clinic secretly used Dr. Vale's sperm for my procedure," Rachel said, her voice shaking violently.

Grant looked up, his bloodshot eyes wide with sudden, sickening realization.

"That means my ex-wife gave birth to my biological half-sister," Grant muttered in pure disgust.

Rachel felt a wave of extreme nausea wash over her as the twisted truth finally settled in.

"Why would a billionaire doctor secretly orchestrate something so incredibly sick and illegal?" she asked.

Grant stood up quickly, completely sobered by the massive gravity of the situation.

"Dr. Vale is absolutely obsessed with passing on his superior genetics to the next generation," Grant said grimly.

He walked over to his mother's antique desk and pulled out a hidden lockbox.

"He runs a secret syndicate that places his DNA into wealthy, influential families to create a shadow empire," Grant revealed.

Rachel backed away toward the door, realizing they had stumbled into a massive criminal conspiracy.

"We have to go to the police right now and expose everything," Rachel pleaded.

Grant shook his head and pulled a loaded handgun out of the metal lockbox.

"The police cannot help us, because Dr. Vale practically owns this entire city," Grant warned her.

Suddenly, Rachel's cell phone rang with a terrifyingly urgent alert from her sister's security system.
