Chapter 7 - The True Traitor

Norah stared in absolute horror as the truth violently unspooled in front of her.

Marcus was not a hostage.

Marcus was the mastermind behind the entire coup.

"You hired him?" Dominic asked, his voice deathly calm.

"I needed a corporate pawn with a personal grudge against your secretary," Marcus admitted.

"Caleb was pathetic, greedy, and eager to steal the flash drive for me."

Caleb backed away slowly, realizing he had been completely played by the mafia.

"You promised me two million dollars and a safe flight out of the country!" Caleb shouted.

"I lied," Marcus smiled cruelly.

Marcus raised his weapon, pointing it directly at Dominic's chest.

"The Russian syndicate promised me the entire Chicago territory if I delivered your head, Boss."

Dominic did not flinch, his face a mask of cold calculation.

"You will never hold this city together," Dominic stated.

Caleb suddenly realized Marcus was going to kill all three of them and leave absolutely no witnesses.

In a desperate bid for survival, Caleb lunged at Marcus with a stolen combat knife.

Marcus did not even blink.

He pulled the trigger, shooting Caleb squarely in the chest.

Caleb collapsed to the cold marble floor, gasping for air as blood pooled around him.

Dominic used the momentary distraction to kick his own dropped weapon up from the floor.

He caught it mid-air and fired.

The bullet struck Marcus in the shoulder, spinning the traitor around.

Marcus fired blindly in return, hitting the concrete wall mere inches from Norah's face.

Before Dominic could finish the job, the vault's emergency lockdown sirens began to blare.

Thick steel doors began sliding down from the ceiling, threatening to seal them all inside.
