Chapter 3 - The Golden Cage

I stared at Katherine in absolute shock as she held up a small, clear glass vial.

She had flawlessly planted the evidence to frame me for her own assassination attempt.

Katherine ordered her armed guards to seize me and drag me to the basement for an immediate execution.

Two massive men grabbed my arms roughly, digging their thick fingers into my skin.

I did not struggle, but I locked my eyes desperately onto Daniel.

Daniel raised his hand slightly, and the armed men instantly froze in their tracks.

He coldly informed Katherine that nobody gets executed in his house without his direct permission.

Katherine’s eyes flashed with genuine panic, but she quickly masked it with fake outrage.

She argued that I was a dangerous assassin who had just tried to kill the man she loved.

Daniel walked over to Katherine, took the small vial from her shaking hand, and examined it closely.

He calmly stated that the situation required a thorough and proper investigation.

He ordered his men to lock me in the penthouse security suite on the top floor of the mansion.

Katherine protested fiercely, but Daniel’s furious glare instantly silenced her.

The guards dragged me up three flights of stairs and threw me into a lavish, windowless bedroom.

The heavy steel door locked behind me with a loud, depressing click.

I was officially a prisoner in the most dangerous house in New York City.

I immediately began searching the room for hidden cameras or listening devices.

I found a tiny microphone planted discreetly inside the base of a bedside lamp.

I sat on the edge of the large bed and spoke aloud, pretending to cry hysterically to my imaginary anonymous employer.

I needed Daniel to believe my fake cover story long enough for me to find an escape route.

Hours passed in agonizing silence as I paced the luxurious room.

Suddenly, a small piece of folded white paper was slid slowly under the heavy steel door.

I rushed over, picked it up, and read the hastily scribbled handwriting.

The note said my father was the one who ordered Katherine to poison the drink.
