Chapter 10 - The Queen of Hearts

Katherine’s finger tightened slowly on the heavy trigger of her silver pistol.

She never noticed the small, flashing red light on the massive projector screen positioned directly behind her.

I had secretly handed a copied USB drive to one of Daniel's few remaining loyal technicians in the lobby.

Suddenly, the massive screen flickered to life, violently interrupting the tense execution.

Crystal-clear security footage from the Ashford mansion filled the entire silent ballroom.

It clearly showed Katherine poisoning Daniel's champagne and conspiring with Silas to murder the other syndicate bosses.

The video also played a recorded phone call of Vincent Marchetti planning to assassinate Katherine the moment she took power.

The entire ballroom erupted into absolute, violent chaos as the allied bosses realized they had been completely played.

The syndicate leaders immediately ordered their own heavily armed guards to turn their weapons on Katherine and Vincent.

Daniel used the sudden distraction to violently disarm the guard holding him captive.

He tossed a loaded weapon directly to me, and we fought back-to-back in the center of the stage.

A brutal, close-quarters shootout tore through the lavish Plaza Hotel ballroom.

Vincent Marchetti cowardly used his own loyal men as human shields and successfully escaped through a side exit.

Katherine, however, was quickly surrounded and violently subdued by the furious syndicate leaders she tried to manipulate.

The bosses immediately recognized Daniel's absolute innocence and formally restored him as the rightful head of the Ashford empire.

The dust finally settled, leaving the dangerous enemies completely defeated and the empire entirely secure.

Daniel dropped his weapon, walked over to me, and pulled me forcefully against his chest.

He kissed me with overwhelming, undeniable passion, proving that this time, there was absolutely no acting involved.

We had survived the ultimate betrayal and finally chosen a real future together.

Exactly one month later, I woke up in Daniel's bed and found a black envelope resting lightly on my pillow.

I broke the wax seal and pulled out a faded photograph of my father shaking hands with Daniel's deceased mother.

A handwritten note on the back of the picture made my heart stop entirely.

It read, "Ask him who you really saved, and pray you survive the real truth."
