Chapter 8 - The Return of the Brother

Sophie felt all the air completely leave her lungs at the mention of her brother's name.
Claire quickly explained that Daniel had barely survived the gunshot to his head three years ago.
Claire had found him bleeding in the woods and had been nursing him back to health in complete secrecy.
They jumped into Claire's rusty, camouflaged pickup truck and tore down a hidden logging road.
They arrived at a secluded, dilapidated warehouse resting quietly on the banks of the river.
A tall, broad-shouldered man stepped out of the shadows, wearing a heavy tactical vest and holding a rifle.
Sophie burst into tears, throwing the truck door open and running as fast as she could.
She crashed into Daniel's arms, sobbing uncontrollably as she hugged the brother she thought she had lost forever.
Daniel looked older, bearing a massive scar across the side of his face, and his eyes were completely hardened by war.
"I am so sorry I couldn't protect you from him, Sophie," Daniel whispered, holding her tightly.
He told her that with Claire's intelligence and the USB drive, they finally had the leverage to destroy Thomas completely.
They gathered around the hood of the truck and formulated a desperate, highly dangerous plan to ambush the sawmill.
They loaded every weapon they had and sped toward the edge of town, the clock ticking mercilessly down.

The rusted structure of the old sawmill loomed in the darkness ahead, looking like a haunted fortress.
As they pulled the truck up to the main gates, the entire building suddenly exploded in a massive, blinding ball of orange fire.
