Chapter 8 - The Hostage

Daniel stepped confidently out of the service elevator, holding a sleek, suppressed pistol aimed perfectly at Olivia's chest.
He was dragging Sophie's terrified teenage brother by the collar of his shirt, the boy's mouth covered entirely with silver duct tape.
Daniel laughed mockingly as he saw Mia locked inside the holding cell, completely ignoring her desperate pleas for help.
He ordered Olivia to immediately sign the medical proxy documents he pulled from his jacket, or he would execute the innocent boy right in front of her.
Sophie screamed in absolute agony, falling to her knees and begging Olivia to just sign the papers to save her brother's life.
Olivia stared at Daniel with absolute hatred, knowing that signing the document would effectively end her own life and hand over her father's entire legacy to murderers.
She slowly picked up an expensive fountain pen from the mahogany viewing desk in the center of the room.
She pressed the gold tip of the pen against the thick legal paper, creating a tense, agonizing silence throughout the massive vault.
Instead of signing her name, Olivia looked directly into Daniel's arrogant eyes and firmly refused.
Before Daniel could react to her defiance, Sophie's brother suddenly sank his teeth violently into the hand of the guard holding him.
The guard yelled in pain, momentarily loosening his grip on the struggling teenager.
The brave boy threw his entire body weight toward the floor, effectively removing himself from Daniel's direct line of fire.

Olivia instantly pulled a hidden, loaded flare gun from the deep pocket of her ruined wedding dress.
She aimed the bright orange weapon directly upward and fired a burning flare straight into the vault's sensitive fire suppression sensors on the ceiling.
