Chapter 5 - The Family Traitor

Olivia sat on the edge of the cheap motel bed, feeling completely sick as the full extent of the betrayal washed over her.

Her uncle's heroic intervention had been nothing more than a theatrical performance designed to keep the real authorities away from the poisoned cake.

Uncle Harper was a trusted member of the family board of directors, meaning his medical assessment of her sanity would have been legally unquestionable.

Sophie paced nervously near the window, peering through the broken blinds into the dark, empty parking lot.

The young waitress quietly asked how they could possibly fight back against a billionaire syndicate that had completely infiltrated Olivia's family.

Olivia stated coldly that they needed to find the syndicate's financial ledgers to prove the conspiracy to the federal authorities.

Before they could formulate a concrete plan, a heavy, desperate knock suddenly rattled the thin wooden door of their motel room.

Sophie gasped in terror, immediately grabbing a heavy brass table lamp to use as a makeshift weapon.

Olivia motioned for Sophie to stand back while she slowly turned the rusted deadbolt and pulled the door open a few inches.

Mia collapsed forward into the room, her elegant bridesmaid dress torn to shreds and covered in dark, fresh blood.

Mia was covered in severe bruises, gasping for air as she crawled desperately across the stained carpet.

Olivia slammed the door shut and locked it, staring down at the woman who had betrayed her so brutally.

Mia wept uncontrollably, begging for forgiveness and claiming that Daniel had tried to murder her in the woods to tie up loose ends.

She swore that she had barely escaped with her life and was now willing to help Olivia destroy the entire criminal organization.
