Chapter 3 - The Ransom

Olivia stared at the terrifying text message, her heart breaking for the sobbing young woman sitting beside her.
She gently placed a hand on Sophie's shoulder, promising that they would find a way to save the innocent boy.
Sophie wiped her tears and confessed that she had not been working at the hotel by sheer coincidence.
She admitted that she had been hired by Victor Vance's men to spike the wedding cake with the sedative.
Her younger brother had accumulated a massive gambling debt, and Victor's syndicate had threatened to execute him if Sophie refused the job.
However, when Sophie saw how happy and kind Olivia was during the reception, her conscience could not allow her to go through with the murder.
She had backed out at the last minute, forcing Daniel and Mia to sneak into the storage room and do the dirty work themselves.
Taking the photograph was Sophie's desperate attempt to save Olivia without getting her own brother killed by the syndicate.
Olivia processed the massive confession, realizing that her entire three-year relationship with Daniel had been an elaborate, fabricated trap.
Her mind raced back to her father's tragic death, which had been officially ruled a terrible boating accident just six months ago.
If Victor Vance was willing to orchestrate a fake marriage and a murder for her inheritance, he was absolutely capable of sabotaging a yacht.
Olivia realized with a sickening wave of dread that her father had been murdered by the exact same people trying to kill her tonight.
She looked at Sophie with a newfound determination burning fiercely in her eyes.

Olivia declared that they were not going to the shipping docks to surrender to Victor's ruthless mercenaries.
Instead, they were going to hunt down the people who had destroyed their lives and tear their criminal empire apart.
