Chapter 1 - The Accomplice

The lavish ballroom was completely silent as Olivia stared at the glowing screen of the waitress's phone in absolute horror.

Her hands trembled so violently that she almost dropped the fragile device onto the cold marble floor.

The woman standing next to Daniel in the dark storage room was undeniably her maid of honor, Mia.

Mia was her best friend of twelve years, the woman who had helped her pick out her beautiful wedding dress just three months ago.

Now, that same best friend was actively helping the man she loved poison her on what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life.

Olivia slowly raised her eyes from the screen and locked her gaze on Mia, who was standing nervously near the frozen string quartet.

Mia realized she had been exposed, and the fake smile instantly vanished from her perfectly made-up face.

Without uttering a single word of explanation, Mia dropped her champagne flute and sprinted toward the kitchen exit.

Olivia wanted to scream, but the overwhelming betrayal paralyzed her completely.

Meanwhile, the two off-duty police officers were forcefully guiding Daniel toward the main doors of the reception hall.

Sophie, the brave young waitress who had exposed the horrific truth, gently touched Olivia's trembling shoulder.

Sophie whispered that they needed to leave the building immediately because something about the situation felt incredibly wrong.

Olivia numbly agreed, taking one last look at the abandoned wedding cake before following Sophie toward the coatroom.

As they walked past the groomsmen's table, Olivia noticed Daniel's expensive tuxedo jacket lying forgotten on a chair.

Acting on pure instinct, she reached into the inner breast pocket and pulled out a folded legal document.

It was a pre-signed life insurance policy worth fifty million dollars in the event of Olivia's untimely death.

Mia was listed clearly on the document as the secondary beneficiary, proving she was in on the financial conspiracy.

But the name listed as the primary beneficiary made Olivia's blood run completely cold.

The primary beneficiary was Victor Vance, the ruthless business tycoon who had been her late father's fiercest rival.
