Chapter 9 - The House of Cards

The sterile hospital room fell completely silent as the forged bank statements settled onto the floor.
Cassandra stared at the scattered evidence, her face turning an incredibly ghastly shade of pale gray.
"Elijah, I can explain everything," Cassandra stammered, taking a desperate step toward him.
Elijah held up a hand, stopping her instantly.
"You framed my wife, you destroyed my marriage, and you tried to murder my only son," Elijah stated, his voice devoid of all emotion.
Cassandra’s sophisticated facade finally cracked, and she completely unraveled under the pressure.
"I only did it because you are a ruthless, work-obsessed machine!" Cassandra screamed hysterically.
"You were going to cast me aside just like you did to her, so I secured my own future with the pharmaceutical buyers!"
Two actual police officers, having finally arrived at the hospital, stepped into the room and heard her entire confession.
They immediately placed Cassandra in heavy steel handcuffs and read her the Miranda rights.
Elijah watched them drag his screaming mistress out of the room, his shoulders slumping under the immense weight of his own mistakes.
He turned slowly to face Naomi, tears streaming freely down his cheeks.
"I was so completely blind, Naomi," Elijah choked out, falling to his knees right in front of her.
"I am so incredibly sorry for everything I did to you, please forgive me."
Naomi looked down at the billionaire who had thrown her away like garbage.
She felt a profound sense of closure, but the pain of the last six months could not be erased with a simple apology.
"You need to focus on being a good father to Toby right now, Elijah," Naomi said gently, stepping away from him.
Just as the tension in the room began to settle, the heavy double doors burst open again.
The lead technician from the independent laboratory ran into the room, completely out of breath and holding a thick file.
"Doctor Wheeler, you need to see the rest of these lab results immediately!" the technician gasped.
Naomi took the file and scanned the complex chemical breakdowns.
"What is wrong?" Elijah asked, wiping his face and standing up.
"Cassandra is not a biochemist, she could not have possibly formulated this experimental drug on her own," the technician explained frantically.

Naomi looked up from the paperwork, her eyes widening as she realized the true depth of the conspiracy.
"The chemical signature proves that the drug was synthesized right here in the basement of this hospital," Naomi revealed.
