Chapter 8 - The Desperate Resuscitation

"Toby!" Elijah screamed, abandoning the laptop and sprinting out of the interrogation room.
Cassandra followed him, pretending to cry in panic, leaving Naomi entirely alone with the two security guards.
Naomi knew that the standard resuscitation protocols would not work against the specific neurotoxin in Toby’s blood.
She launched herself backward, snapping the brittle plastic chair against the metal table and breaking her zip-ties.
Before the guards could react, Naomi shoved past them and sprinted up the stairs toward the pediatric wing.
She burst into Room 412 just as a team of doctors was preparing to use the defibrillator paddles on Toby’s lifeless body.
"Stop!" Naomi roared, pushing her way through the crowded medical staff.
"The electricity will only accelerate the chemical binding of the toxin, you have to use a high-dose atropine push!" Naomi commanded with absolute authority.
The attending physician hesitated, confused by the sudden intrusion of the suspended doctor.
Naomi did not wait for permission.
She grabbed a pre-filled syringe of atropine from the crash cart and injected it directly into Toby’s central line.
She immediately began performing rapid, specialized chest compressions, counting loudly as she worked.
"Come back to me, Toby, fight it," Naomi whispered fiercely with every push.
Elijah stood frozen in the corner, holding his breath as the agonizing seconds ticked by.
Suddenly, the flatline tone on the monitor broke into a jagged, uneven rhythm.
Toby gasped violently for air, his small chest rising and falling on its own once again.
Naomi collapsed against the edge of the bed, wiping a mixture of sweat and tears from her forehead.
Elijah rushed to the bedside, falling to his knees and weeping as he held his son’s hand.
Cassandra stood near the doorway, looking absolutely horrified that the boy had survived.
"Get this woman away from my son before she tries again!" Cassandra shrieked, pointing at Naomi.
Elijah slowly stood up and turned to face Cassandra.
He didn't look angry; he looked completely, terrifyingly calm.
Elijah walked over to Cassandra, grabbed her expensive designer handbag, and dumped the contents entirely onto the floor.
A hidden pouch ripped open, spilling three vials of the deadly neurotoxin across the linoleum tiles.

Scattered among the poison were several folded pieces of paper bearing the logo of Elijah’s private bank.
They were the original, un-altered bank statements proving that Cassandra had forged the documents to frame Naomi six months ago.
