Chapter 7 - The Cave In

I abandoned my cover and rushed toward the panic room.
The fire above was spreading rapidly, turning the basement into an oven.
I shot another mercenary who tried to block my path.
I tore open the vault door and threw aside the rug.
I ripped the floor panel open and jumped into the dark dirt tunnel.
I crawled frantically through the narrow space.
The air was thick with dust and the smell of damp earth.
I found Grace and the girls stopped at a massive pile of collapsed rock.
The tunnel had caved in from the weight of the explosives used upstairs.
Grace was frantically digging at the dirt with her bare, bleeding hands.
The girls were coughing from the lack of oxygen.
I pushed Grace aside and attacked the rubble with my bare hands.
I tore away heavy rocks and roots, desperate to create an opening.
Smoke began filtering down into the tunnel from the panic room.
We were running out of breathable air.
I felt a cold draft of wind hit my face.
I had broken through the other side of the collapse.
I shoved the girls through the small opening one by one.
Grace followed them into the wider section of the passage.
I squeezed through just as the tunnel behind me collapsed completely.
We scrambled toward the faint moonlight shining at the end of the tunnel.
We burst out into the freezing night air inside the wooden boathouse.
I rushed to the speedboat and started the engine.

Before I could untie the ropes, a spotlight blinded us.
Silas stepped out from the shadows of the dock.
