Chapter 6 - Blood and Echoes

Silas looked older than I expected, but his eyes were pure ice.
He told me I put up a good fight, but it was over.
He demanded to know where the girls were hiding.
I told him he would have to kill me first.
He laughed and said that was exactly the plan.
I dove to the right just as he pulled the trigger.
The buckshot tore a massive hole in the concrete wall behind me.
I returned fire blindly as I rolled behind a support pillar.
The basement echoed with deafening gunfire.
His men started rushing down the stairs to join the fight.
I was hopelessly outnumbered and outgunned.
I checked my magazine and realized I only had ten bullets left.
I needed to draw them away from the panic room and the hidden tunnel.
I threw a smoke grenade down the hallway and sprinted toward the wine cellar.
Bullets shattered thousands of expensive bottles around me.
Red wine pooled on the floor like fresh blood.
I took down two of his men who charged blindly into the smoke.
Silas shouted orders from the safety of the stairwell.
He told them to burn the house down and flush me out.
I smelled gasoline pouring down from the first floor.
They were going to turn my home into an incinerator.
I checked my phone to see if Grace had reached the boathouse yet.
The GPS tracker I slipped into Nora's pocket was stationary.

They hadn't made it to the water.
They were trapped halfway down the tunnel.
