Chapter 9 - The Intervention

The massive steel container smashed into the catwalk, collapsing the metal structure and crushing several mercenaries instantly.
The remaining guards fired wildly into the shadows, completely panicked by the sudden, devastating attack.
I dove behind a rusted forklift as bullets ricocheted off the concrete pavement all around me.
I looked up at the operator cabin of the massive cargo crane, expecting to see Vance at the controls.
Instead, I saw Catherine sitting in the driver's seat, her face set with fierce, undeniable determination.
She had refused to stay behind at the safe house and had followed me to protect her family.
She swung the crane again, sweeping the massive heavy hook through the remaining mercenaries on the ground.
The sudden chaos provided the exact distraction Vance needed to mobilize his federal assault teams.
Dozens of black tactical vans smashed through the shipyard gates, flooding the area with armed FBI agents.
The federal agents quickly overwhelmed Daria’s surviving mercenaries, forcing them to surrender their weapons.
I sprinted toward the collapsed wreckage of the catwalk, desperately searching for my mother.
Daria crawled out from beneath a twisted piece of metal, her expensive clothes torn and covered in grease.
She saw me approaching and raised her silver pistol, her eyes filled with manic, unhinged hatred.
She aimed the weapon directly at my head, screaming that I had destroyed everything she built.
Before she could pull the trigger, Catherine stepped out of the shadows and pressed the barrel of a stolen assault rifle against the back of Daria’s head.

Catherine softly whispered that Daria was never going to threaten our family again.
My mother slowly dropped the pistol, finally realizing she had lost absolutely everything.
