Chapter 9 - The Ransom

I watched the screen in absolute horror as the fire consumed everything I had built.
The massive front windows of my restaurant shattered outward from the intense heat.
David leaned in close and whispered that he had sent his private security team to burn it down.
He told me that if I handed the video evidence to the police, Ethan’s life would be next.
I turned around frantically to find my husband in the crowded ballroom.
Ethan was completely gone.
I pushed through the crowd of wealthy guests, screaming his name over the loud music.
My phone buzzed in my hand with a terrifying new message.
It was a photograph of Ethan tied to a metal chair in a dark, abandoned warehouse.
He was bruised, bleeding, and staring directly at the camera.
A second message arrived outlining David’s final ransom demand.
I had to bring the only copy of the security tape to the warehouse immediately.
I also had to sign over all of my holding company shares and write a full confession to the CEO's murder.
If I called the police or hesitated for even one minute, Ethan would be killed.
I ran out of the hotel and hailed a taxi, my hands shaking violently as I signed the legal documents in the backseat.
I was willing to give up my money, my business, and my freedom to save the man I loved.
The taxi dropped me off at the edge of the desolate industrial park.

I walked into the dark, cavernous warehouse alone, holding the signed documents in my hand.
What David did not know was that I also had a loaded gun tucked securely into the back of my waistband.
