Chapter 4 - The Secret Meeting

My flagship restaurant was officially shut down by the city.
The news spread across social media faster than a wildfire.
Customers were posting pictures of the red closure sticker on every major platform.
My company’s stock value began to plummet violently in a matter of hours.
I sat in my dark, empty dining room and cried out of pure frustration.
My phone vibrated with a new text message.
It was a picture from Lauren, showing her drinking champagne on a luxury yacht.
The caption simply told me I should have learned my place back in high school.
I wiped my tears and decided I was done playing by the rules.
I secretly hired a high-end private investigator to follow Lauren’s every move.
I needed to find out exactly who she was working with inside Ethan’s company.
Two days later, the investigator sent me a live video feed to my laptop.
The camera showed Lauren sitting in a dark, seedy bar on the edge of town.
She was waiting for someone to arrive in the shadows.
A man wearing a heavy black coat finally sat down next to her at the booth.
Lauren handed him a thick envelope that was clearly stuffed with cash.
The man pulled down his hood to count the money.
I gasped loudly and dropped my phone onto the floor.

It was not an executive from Ethan’s company.
The person taking the bribe was my own trusted executive chef.
