Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Betrayal

I stepped into the center of the warehouse where a single overhead light illuminated the concrete floor.

David and Lauren stepped out of the shadows, both of them wearing victorious smiles.

Ethan was tied to a chair behind them, looking exhausted but alive.

David demanded that I slide the signed shares and the security tape across the floor.

I threw the folder at his feet and told him to let my husband go.

Lauren eagerly picked up the documents and verified my signature with a greedy laugh.

David pulled a knife from his belt and walked over to cut Ethan’s thick ropes.

He smugly told me that I was incredibly stupid for trusting a corporate shark.

I smiled right back at him and unbuttoned the top of my jacket.

I revealed the blinking red light of an FBI recording wire taped to my chest.

Before David could even react, the massive warehouse doors exploded inward.

Dozens of armed federal agents swarmed the building with tactical lasers aimed directly at David and Lauren.

The agents slammed both of them onto the concrete and arrested them for extortion, arson, and murder.

I rushed over to Ethan and threw my arms around his neck, crying tears of pure relief.

We held each other tightly in the chaos, knowing the nightmare was finally over and my insurance would cover the fire.

Later that night, I was standing in our quiet laundry room, unpacking Ethan’s ruined suit to throw it away.

A secret, unmarked burner phone slipped out of his inner pocket and clattered heavily onto the tile floor.

The screen lit up instantly with a scheduled text message from David that had been sent exactly one minute before the FBI raid.

It read, "The wife bought the whole performance, Ethan; your assets are fully secured now, just like we planned."
