Chapter 6 - The Coastal Fortress

The line went completely dead as Marcus took his final breath.

Ethan knew there was only one abandoned lighthouse within a hundred miles of their location.

It sat on a jagged, isolated cliff overlooking the treacherous northern ocean.

He stole a dusty pickup truck from a nearby gas station and drove fiercely through the night.

The storm worsened, completely washing out the coastal roads with heavy, blinding rain.

They finally arrived at the rocky path leading up to the towering, dark lighthouse.

The structure looked completely abandoned and terrifyingly silent against the crashing waves.

Ethan parked the truck in the dense trees and handed Lucy a heavy flashlight.

They crept up the slippery stone steps toward the heavy iron door of the lighthouse.

The door was completely unlocked and swung open with an eerie, metallic screech.

They stepped into the circular room at the base of the massive tower.

The room was filled with expensive medical equipment and heavily reinforced steel cages.

It looked exactly like a modern, high-tech prison hidden inside an ancient shell.

Lucy pointed her flashlight toward the darkest corner of the damp room.

A woman was chained to the stone wall, her head slumping exhausted against her chest.

Ethan dropped his weapon and ran desperately toward the captive woman.

He gently lifted her chin, tears of absolute relief welling in his tired eyes.

He prepared to look into the beautiful eyes of his long-lost wife.

The woman slowly opened her eyes and looked at him with profound confusion.

It was not Olivia.

It was Victoria’s identical twin sister, a woman Ethan never even knew existed.

She smiled a twisted, sickening smile and pressed a hidden button on the wall.
