Chapter 4 - The Traitor in the House

Ethan grabbed his daughter's phone and stared at the chilling live video feed.

The person holding the knife slowly reached up and turned the camera around.

Ethan stopped breathing when he recognized the familiar face on the screen.

It was Marcus, his trusted business partner and the best man at his ruined wedding.

Marcus smiled a wicked, sinister smile directly into the camera lens.

He told Ethan that Victoria had paid him millions to clean up her final loose ends.

He casually set Lucy’s bedsheets on fire and walked out of the frame.

Ethan knew their entire lives were being systematically erased in a single night.

They drove to a cheap, anonymous motel on the edge of the city to hide.

Ethan found an old VCR in the dusty motel room and plugged it into the television.

He inserted the videotape they had recovered from the burning asylum safe.

The screen flickered wildly before displaying a sterile, white hospital room.

Olivia sat in a chair, looking incredibly tired but undeniably alive.

She held up a copy of a newspaper dated only three days ago.

She looked directly into the camera with tears streaming down her pale face.

“Ethan, if you are watching this, you must never look for me,” she pleaded weakly.

She explained that Victoria was not acting alone in this massive conspiracy.

Victoria was merely a pawn working for the most dangerous crime syndicate in the city.

Olivia confessed that she faked her own death to protect Ethan and Lucy from being murdered.

Before she could explain further, a loud knock echoed on the motel room door.

Ethan drew his concealed weapon and crept silently toward the window.

He peaked through the cheap plastic blinds into the rainy parking lot.

A dozen heavily armed men were quietly surrounding their motel room.

Standing at the front of the mercenary group was Victoria, wearing a bulletproof vest.
