Chapter 4 - The Fatal Intervention

Alejandro gently placed Valeria down behind a massive concrete pillar to completely shield her. Doctor Silva calmly walked toward them, fully surrounded by four heavily armed mercenaries. The corrupt surgeon explained that Esther's rare, aggressive blood disease had finally reached its terminal stage. The absolute only cure was an immediate transfusion of stem cells harvested directly from a specific genetic match. Valeria's unborn child possessed the exact, miraculous genetic mutation Esther so desperately required to survive. Silva stated coldly that they did not need the premature baby to survive the extraction, nor did they need the mother. Alejandro raised the stolen shotgun and aimed it directly at the doctor's arrogant, smiling face. He loudly warned the mercenaries that he would blow the surgeon's head completely off if anyone took a single step forward. The armed men hesitated briefly, glancing nervously at the highly valuable, irreplaceable doctor. Suddenly, the screeching tires of a black armored SUV echoed loudly through the cavernous garage. The heavy vehicle smashed violently through the closed security gates, sending metal debris flying everywhere. The SUV swerved wildly and slammed directly into two of the armed mercenaries, pinning them brutally to the concrete wall. The driver's side door flew open, revealing an old friend Alejandro hadn't seen in many years. It was Mateo, a ruthless investigative journalist who had been secretly helping Valeria uncover the family's dark past. Mateo yelled frantically for them to get into the vehicle immediately before more guards arrived. Alejandro provided heavy cover fire, shooting wildly into the air to force the remaining guards entirely behind cover. He grabbed Valeria and practically threw her into the spacious backseat of the heavy, idling SUV. Alejandro dove in right behind her just as automatic gunfire completely shattered the rear windshield. Mateo slammed his foot heavily on the gas pedal, tearing out of the garage and speeding into the busy morning streets of Mexico City. Valeria screamed in agonizing pain as another incredibly powerful contraction ripped through her fragile body. Mateo navigated the chaotic urban traffic with terrifying speed, desperately trying to reach a safe, underground medical clinic. They genuinely thought they had finally escaped the deadly, suffocating clutches of the Aranda family. But Alejandro looked back through the shattered rear window and saw three unmarked black vans aggressively pursuing them. A massive sniper rifle slowly protruded from the passenger window of the lead pursuit vehicle. The skilled sniper took careful, deadly aim at Mateo's head through the broken glass.
