Chapter 8 - The Desperate Fight

Shattered glass rained down heavily on the two doctors as they hit the sterile floor with a massive crash.
Julian swung his fist wildly in a blind panic, catching Ethan directly in the left eye.
Ethan completely ignored the flashing pain, driven entirely by the primal, fierce instinct to protect his vulnerable children.
He pinned Julian aggressively against the metal supply cabinets and delivered a crushing, powerful blow to his stomach.
Julian gasped desperately for air, dropping the lethal plastic syringe completely onto the sterile white tiles.
Ethan kicked the syringe far under a heavy medical cart to ensure it could absolutely not be used again.
He yelled that Julian had sold his entire soul for absolutely nothing but a false promise from a liar.
He stated that the police were already on their way, and Victoria was going to rot in prison right beside him.
Suddenly, Julian pulled a hidden, high-voltage taser from his coat pocket and pressed it directly into Ethan's ribs.
Fifty thousand volts of pure electricity tore violently through Ethan's body, dropping him to his knees in sheer agony.
Julian scrambled frantically to his feet, panting heavily as he looked down at his paralyzed former friend.
He completely denied going to prison, bragging that he was taking a private jet directly to South America tonight.
Julian turned rapidly and ran out of the neonatal ward, leaving the heavy doors swinging widely behind him.
Ethan forced his painfully paralyzed muscles to move, crawling desperately across the floor toward the incubators.
He quickly checked the digital vital signs of both twins and wept quietly when he saw they were completely unharmed.
He pressed the emergency intercom button on the wall and ordered campus security to permanently lock down the helipad.
He confidently knew that Julian was completely trapped inside the massive building with no possible avenue of escape.
Ethan finally stood up, leaning heavily against the concrete wall to support his exhausted, battered body.

He genuinely thought the absolute worst part of this horrifying nightmare was finally over.
Then, the delicate heart monitor connected to his tiny daughter's incubator flatlined with a piercing, continuous scream.
