Chapter 12 - The Architect's Game

The distorted voice crackling from the dead tablet sent a violent, freezing chill completely down Ethan's spine.

Hannah gasped, stepping back toward the nursery hallway while instinctively shielding the sleeping twins.

"Who are you?" Ethan demanded, his voice projecting total, unwavering authority despite the intense fear gripping his chest.

"I am the man who built the empire you so arrogantly believe you control," the metallic voice replied smoothly.

"Your mother was merely a convenient, incredibly ruthless puppet, Ethan."

The hacker had flawlessly bypassed the multi-million dollar firewall surrounding Ethan’s private, heavily guarded home network.

"If you want my money, take it," Ethan offered fiercely, entirely willing to surrender his entire fortune to protect his family.

"I do not want your pathetic medical charity, Doctor," The Architect laughed, the sound deeply unsettling and entirely devoid of humanity.

"I want the Caldwell name completely erased from the face of the earth, just as your father erased mine."

The connection severed instantly, leaving the living room drowning in a terrifying, heavy silence.

Ethan grabbed a heavy brass poker from the fireplace and smashed the compromised tablet into a dozen shattered pieces.

He realized The Architect was not merely a greedy corporate rival attempting a hostile financial takeover.

This was a deeply personal, incredibly violent vendetta rooted entirely in the dark, blood-soaked history of the Caldwell family.

The next morning, Ethan aggressively ordered his security detail to triple their forces around Hannah and the children.

He drove his armored SUV directly to the maximum-security federal penitentiary where Victoria was currently serving her sentence.

He used his massive influence to secure an immediate, unmonitored visitation with his disgraced mother.

Victoria sat perfectly straight behind the thick, bulletproof glass, wearing an orange jumpsuit that severely clashed with her arrogant demeanor.

She looked at her son with absolute, unfiltered disgust, entirely unrepentant for attempting to murder his innocent babies.

"Who is The Architect?" Ethan demanded instantly, skipping all pleasantries and slamming his fist on the metal counter.

Victoria's arrogant smirk faltered for a fraction of a second, her eyes darting nervously toward the security cameras.

"I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about," Victoria lied smoothly, though her hands trembled slightly.

"He sent a black rose to my house last night, Mother," Ethan growled, his voice vibrating with absolute, murderous fury.

"He hacked my encrypted network and bragged about funding Julian's attack on the twins."

All the blood completely drained from Victoria's highly maintained face at the mention of the black rose.

She leaned incredibly close to the bulletproof glass, her voice dropping to a terrified, desperate whisper.

"You need to take your wife and those babies and completely vanish, Ethan," Victoria pleaded, showing genuine fear for the very first time.

"He is not a man you can fight in a courtroom or a boardroom. He is a ghost who leaves absolutely nothing but ash behind."

"Give me a name!" Ethan roared, losing his renowned medical composure entirely.

Before Victoria could answer, a loud, piercing siren began blaring aggressively throughout the entire prison facility.

The heavy steel lockdown doors slammed violently shut, and red emergency lights began strobing rapidly.

A prison guard rushed into the visitation room, his face pale and completely frantic.

"Doctor Caldwell, you need to evacuate immediately," the guard yelled over the deafening alarm.

"Someone just triggered a massive explosive device in the primary cell block."
