Chapter 8 - Blood and Betrayal

Dr. Sarah Jenkins stood on the windy roof, her face pale and etched with deep lines of pure exhaustion.
She looked at Ethan with tears streaming down her face, her hands trembling as she held a customized automatic pistol.
"I am so sorry I lied to you, Ethan," Sarah shouted over the roaring blades of the waiting helicopter.
"Richard's assassins were too close, so I had to fake my own death to draw their attention away from you."
Danielle watched this emotional reunion with absolute bewilderment, realizing this woman was both her savior and her tormentor.
"You kidnapped my baby fifteen years ago," Danielle screamed, pointing an accusing finger at the rogue scientist.
"I saved him from a father who wanted to harvest his bone marrow for experimental longevity treatments," Sarah fired back fiercely.
Before the argument could escalate, Marcus let out a cruel laugh and tightened his grip on baby Liam.
"This family reunion is very touching, but Richard wants the teenager and the baby, or nobody leaves this roof alive," Marcus threatened.
Sarah raised her weapon, aiming directly at the center of Marcus's chest with steady, practiced precision.
"Put the baby down, Marcus, or I will end you right here," Sarah warned, her finger slowly tightening on the trigger.
Marcus smirked and suddenly shifted his aim, pointing his suppressed pistol directly at Sarah's head.
The gunshot echoed sharply in the cold night air, but Sarah did not fall to the ground as expected.
Instead, Ethan had violently thrown his own body across the line of fire to protect the only mother he had ever truly known.

The bullet tore through Ethan's left shoulder, spinning him around with brutal force and sending him stumbling backward.
Danielle screamed in absolute horror as Ethan lost his footing on the wet gravel and vanished over the un-walled edge of the roof.
