Chapter 19 - The Fall of Kings

The explosive charges Danielle had planted under the helipad's main structural supports detonated with a catastrophic roar. The entire concrete platform violently shuddered, groaning as massive fissures ripped through the surface.
Richard lost his footing, stumbling backward as the ground literally crumbled beneath his expensive leather shoes.
"Danielle, no!" Richard screamed, dropping his rifle and scrambling desperately to find purchase on the tilting slab of concrete.
But it was too late. The outer edge of the helipad sheared off completely. Richard slid backward, his manic screams swallowed instantly by the roaring alpine wind as he plummeted into the freezing abyss below.
On the remaining stable section of the platform, the explosive shockwave had thrown the Director and Julian apart. The Director staggered to his feet, pulling a concealed combat knife from his boot. He lunged at Julian, intending to end the rogue assassin's life once and for all.
But Julian, running purely on adrenaline and instinct, rolled beneath the heavy strike. He drove his own tactical blade upward, burying it deep into the Director's chest.
The Russian boss gasped, dropping his knife as his eyes widened in absolute shock. He fell backward into the snow, bleeding out instantly in the cold mountain air.
Silence finally fell over the mountain, save for the rhythmic thumping of the waiting helicopter's rotors and the soft, confused whimpering of baby Liam.
Danielle rushed across the cracked concrete, falling to her knees beside Julian. He was pale, shivering violently, and losing a massive amount of blood from the bullet wound in his leg and the shrapnel in his shoulder.
"We have to go," Danielle urged, ripping the sleeve of her coat to create a makeshift tourniquet around his leg. "The local authorities will have heard those explosions. We have to fly now."
Julian looked up at her, his vision blurring. "I... I can't. I'm dead weight, Danielle. Leave me. Protect the boy."
"Shut up," Danielle snapped, her voice breaking with fierce, undeniable emotion. She hooked her arm under his shoulder, straining with all her might to drag his heavy frame toward the open door of the helicopter.
"I lost one son to that monster fifteen years ago," she cried, dragging him onto the metal floor of the cabin. "I am absolutely not losing you today. You are coming with us, Julian."
May you like
Julian looked at her, the hardened assassin finally breaking down as a single tear escaped his eye. For the first time in his entire brutal life, someone was fighting for him.
Danielle strapped him into the medical seat, climbed into the pilot's chair, and pushed the throttle forward, lifting them away from the burning ruins of her past.
