Chapter 7 - The Final Stand

Arthur marched toward us, swinging the heavy crowbar at his side like a deadly pendulum.
There was nowhere left for us to run, and our shared cast made dodging impossible.
We backed up against the cold metal of his truck, completely cornered in the darkness.
"I am going to beat you both to death and throw you in the fire myself," Arthur promised.
Liam reached behind his back and frantically grabbed a heavy glass bottle from the bed of the truck.
As Arthur raised the iron bar above his head for a lethal strike, Liam threw the bottle with perfect aim.
It shattered violently against Arthur’s forehead, sending a shower of glass and liquid across his face.
Arthur roared in pain, dropping the crowbar and clutching his bleeding eyes.
I did not waste a single second of our advantage.
I stepped forward and kicked his kneecap with all the strength in my good leg.
Arthur’s leg buckled instantly, and he collapsed onto the muddy ground, cursing loudly.
We scrambled around him and reached the passenger side door of the truck.
I pulled the door open, desperate to pull Aunt Clara out before Arthur recovered.
Clara was slumped in the seat, her hands bound tightly with thick zip ties, but she was slowly regaining consciousness.
"Aunt Clara, you have to wake up right now!" Liam yelled, shaking her shoulder.
She blinked rapidly, her eyes widening in sheer terror as she realized where she was.
I grabbed a pocket knife from the center console and quickly sliced through the thick plastic ties binding her wrists.
She rubbed her bleeding wrists and looked past us into the darkness.
Her expression shifted from relief to absolute horror.
Arthur had recovered from our attack, and he was no longer holding a crowbar.
He had reached into his truck bed and pulled out a loaded, pump-action shotgun.

"Get in the truck, right now!" Clara screamed, grabbing me by the shirt and pulling us into the cab.
Before Clara could shift the truck into gear, Arthur aimed the shotgun directly at the front windshield.
