Chapter 10 - The Arrival

The deafening roar of the helicopter blades drowned out everything on the silent highway.
The blinding spotlight pinned the corrupt sheriff perfectly in its intense, white beam.
The sheriff panicked, instinctively raising his hands to shield his eyes from the overwhelming glare.
Suddenly, three massive, black armored vehicles burst from the tree line, completely blocking the highway in both directions.
Dozens of heavily armed State Troopers and FBI agents poured out of the vehicles, raising their rifles at the sheriff.
"Drop your weapon immediately and get on the ground!" a voice boomed over a powerful megaphone.
The sheriff dropped his gun instantly, falling to his knees as federal agents swarmed him and placed him in heavy steel handcuffs.
Clara rushed over to the truck, pulling Liam and me into a massive, tearful embrace.
A federal agent approached us, explaining that Clara had activated a dead-man's switch on her phone before entering our house.
The automated app had successfully uploaded all her evidence and our location directly to the FBI field office in the city.
Paramedics quickly arrived, loading us into a warm, safe ambulance to treat our minor injuries and smoke inhalation.
We were informed that Arthur had been found unconscious near the tree, arrested, and transported to a secure prison hospital.
He and his corrupt sheriff were going to spend the rest of their miserable lives behind bars.
The nightmare was officially and permanently over.
A few months later, the courts finalized the massive trust fund transfer on our eighteenth birthday.
Clara became our legal guardian, and we bought a beautiful, peaceful house near the ocean, far away from our dark past.
Liam and I finally had the money to afford top-tier medical care, physical therapy, and customized mobility equipment.
We were safe, we were wealthy, and most importantly, we were entirely free.
Our lives were finally filled with genuine happiness and absolute peace.
On a quiet Sunday morning, a private courier arrived at our new front door and handed Clara a small, sealed envelope.

The handwriting on the front of the thick paper belonged undeniably to our mother, who had supposedly died three years ago.
The single, terrifying line written on the back warned us that Arthur was only taking orders from someone else.
