Chapter 9 - The Final Flight

The gunshot echoed in the small room like a cannon blast, deafening Evelyn instantly.
Marco collapsed backward onto the cold linoleum floor, a dark red stain spreading across his white shirt.
Evelyn screamed in absolute horror and backed away until she hit the wall.
"Why did you do that?" she cried out, looking at the man she had risked everything to save.
Antonio calmly placed the smoking revolver on the table and adjusted his expensive watch.
"Marco was the one who let Lorenzo's assassins into my estate. He played both sides," Antonio explained coldly.
He looked down at his bleeding brother tied to the chair, showing absolutely no mercy.
"In my world, Miss Foster, loyalty is the only currency that matters, and everyone is eventually corrupted."
He turned to Evelyn, his expression softening just a fraction.
"You, however, proved your loyalty at 37,000 feet, and you proved it again tonight."
Antonio gestured toward the door, where four of his most heavily armed enforcers had just arrived.
"My private jet is waiting at a secure airstrip to take me back to Rome, and you are coming with me," he stated.
Evelyn looked at Marco's lifeless body and realized she had absolutely no choice.
She was escorted into a black armored vehicle, sitting silently next to the most dangerous man in Europe.
They drove through the rainy Irish dawn, eventually arriving at a private runway where a sleek Gulfstream jet was idling.
Antonio's men secured the perimeter, ensuring there were no more surprises from Lorenzo's broken cartel.
Evelyn boarded the luxurious aircraft, sinking into a plush leather seat.
As the plane lifted off the ground, leaving the nightmare of Ireland behind, she finally felt a wave of safety wash over her.
Antonio sat across from her and handed her a sleek leather briefcase.
"Inside is a new passport, two million dollars, and a clean slate," Antonio said softly.

He smiled warmly and poured her a glass of incredibly expensive champagne.
"You are free now, Evelyn."
